Meganeura (adults on the left side) is one of the few insect species cloned by InGen, and it is an extraordinary one. Both the adults and the nymphs are voracious predators that can eat their body weight of food in less than an hour. Meganeura is a skilled hunter of literally anything smaller than itself. It is an ambush predator with excellent eyesight, perching in the trees or mangroves of its territory as it waits patiently for an unsuspecting victim to come within range.Upon divebombing the victim, it is then grabbed with the insect's spiky limbs and carried off to a secluded spot where the Meganeura can consume its prize in peace. The dragonfly uses its powerful mandibles to tear off pieces of flesh or peel away hard skin and exoskeletons to reach the soft tissue underneath. Though relatively harmless to humans, Meganeura can deliver a painful bite if captured or handled roughly.

Meganeura is extremely fast and agile, able to fly at speeds of up to 70 mph. During flight the adult can propel itself in six directions - upward, downward, forward, backward, and side to side. It can also change direction in mid-air and hover for up to a minute. The males are territorial and aggressive towards one another, and will perform acrobatic airborne battles as they try to knock each other out of the air. When a male finds a female for mating, he approaches her from behind, grabs her thorax with his legs, and holds on. Being such a large insect, Meganeura can only comfortably mate when at rest. With the weight of the male on her back, the female will be forced to land. The male holds onto the female with the claspers at the end of his abdomen, and then they mate. The female might mate with multiple partners, but only the sperm from her final partner will fertilize her eggs. As a result the male Meganeura will guard the female viciously from other males, until she finally lays her eggs. 

The Nymphs (right side), which spend practically all their time in the water, are extremely fast swimmers and will eat just about anything that moves under the water and on the surface, including other Meganeura nymphs. For a quick burst of speed, the nymph is able to eject water from its anal opening to act like a jet propulsion system, which makes it a near impossible feat for prey to even think of an escape. When the nymph is ready to metamorphose into an adult, it climbs up a reed or other emergent plant. The skin splits at a weak spot behind the head and the adult dragonfly crawls out of its larval skin, pumps up its wings, and takes to the air. 

Meganuera is active during the day, and perches at night. During the early morning, it shivers its wings, warming up before takeoff for a day's hunting.
